BIOGRAPHY
With his versatility in style and all around musicality Michael Villiers continues to push the music envelope in every performance opportunity. Learning to play the trumpet at a young age helped Michael to develop a very musical "ear", which is now apparent in his confident yet tastefully lyric drumming style. Growing up in Seattle area Michael studied with drummers John Wicks (drummer with Fitz & The tantrums, Cee-Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Meshell N'decocello), Jason Mcgerr (drummer with Death Cab for Cutie), and Steve Smith. Relocating to Los Angeles in 2008, Michael attended the Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA) and studied with greats such as; Ralph Humphrey (drummer of Frank Zappa), Mike Shapiro (drummer with Sergio Mendes, Herb Alpert), and Joe Porcaro (drummer and percussionist with Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz). Since his time at LAMA, Michael hit the road working with an array of artists and has experience working in all genres. Through time Michael has developed his own sound and style that adds taste and flair to every playing situation be it pop, rock, soul, r&b, afro cuban, brazillian, reggae, funk and jazz in live and studio settings.
